Privileged during CoVid

Very frequently a common musing which I hear is that people are being overworked in the name of Work from Home in the times of CoVid. Yes, there is a element of truth in the statement in terms of longer hours of work, loss of that thin line between work hours to family hours, and sometimes an expectation that you are available to do work 24X7.

I on the other hand feel that I am part of the privileged few who has ‘work’ in these very difficult times, and not only that, to do my ‘work’ I am not taking any undue risks, which is common place for so many people who has to go out of their home to accomplish their ‘work’. Not only that, I feel doubly privileged, because so many people have lost their ‘work’ either permanently or temporarily. So in this situation, I can only consider myself as blessed, because I have work, and secondly, I can do it within the safety of my home without compromising my health in any way.

In these difficult times, if you do have to give a little bit more, to keep your company ahead or afloat, I think it is worth it. In all difficult times, every one has to give that much more, so that we can overcome the tough road ahead. Every time you give some thing you get back more, so why this negativity of complaining of the ‘more’ work, loss of personal time etc. To a great extent, I feel this balance is to be brought by ‘me’ and not by my boss!!!

So, in conclusion - look at the positive side, you have work, a protected salary which comes at the end of the month, you work in the safety of your home, hence even if you are expected to give that much more (possibly to compensate for the inefficiencies of working from home), I feel its ok. The safety net is worth some extra effort. Let’s do our bit and work towards beating the CoVid, and also lets make sure that our company is better placed when this is over!!!
